CLICK HERE: MIN DIMENSION GAGE INSTRUCTIONS
Ever wonder if your reloaded ammunition truly meets minimum SAAMI chamber dimensions? The L.E. Wilson Brass Min Dimension Gage is designed to verify that your finished rounds fall within SAAMI minimum chamber specifications before firing or use across multiple firearms.
Manufactured with the same tight tolerances expected from all L.E. Wilson tools, this gage checks minimum chamber dimensions and overall length (OAL). It is especially useful when loading ammunition intended to function reliably in multiple firearms of the same caliber.
For best results, we recommend using the Min Dimension Gage in conjunction with a Regular Case Gage to help prevent over-sizing and to evaluate shoulder setback and trim length on bottleneck cartridges.
Important Notes on Use
Check with your bullet manufacturer to verify proper overall length (OAL), as OAL will vary depending on bullet weight and design. Min Dimension Gages are manufactured to SAAMI minimum chamber specifications. These specifications are slightly larger than maximum cartridge dimensions.
If a loaded round does not enter the Min Dimension Gage, it indicates a dimensional issue relative to SAAMI minimum chamber specifications. This does not automatically mean the ammunition is unsafe, but it does signal that the round should be evaluated before firing.
If a round enters the Min Dimension Gage but does not chamber in your firearm, this typically indicates a very tight or custom-cut chamber. This may result from a tight reamer or a chamber cut below SAAMI minimum headspace. In this case, the ammunition may still be safe and dimensionally correct, but not compatible with that specific firearm.
Reasons to Use the Brass Min Dimension Gage
- Ensure reloaded ammunition will chamber in multiple firearms of the same caliber
- Verify uniformity of finished rounds against SAAMI specifications
- Identify dimensional issues in reloaded or factory ammunition
- Confirm cartridges are under maximum SAAMI COAL
- Inspect factory ammunition before use
For bottleneck cartridges, we recommend using a Regular Case Gage to help determine proper shoulder setback and trim length based on your chamber headspace.
Available in select calibers.
